Changelog
1.6
12 October 2026
New
- S3 buckets (Pro). Add a folder from a bucket on Scaleway, AWS, Hetzner, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, IDrive e2 or any other S3-compatible storage. Pick your provider and Sonarch fills in the address and region; you add the bucket, an optional folder and an access key. A key that can read only one folder works too.
Improved
- Sign-ins to Subsonic and WebDAV servers and S3 buckets now reach your other Apple devices through iCloud Keychain, as Dropbox and pCloud sign-ins already did, so a server or bucket taken from your account doesn't ask for its password again. Disconnecting one signs it out everywhere.
- Adding a WebDAV folder inside one already in your library, or around one, is refused instead of holding the same files twice.
- Each location in Settings opens its own browse in one click, or creates one if it has none (macOS).
- An album's tracks open under its cover, with the artist, years, track count and length, and buttons to pin it or make it available offline. Tap the cover to see it full size (iPhone).
- Right-click the volume slider to type an exact volume, in percent or dB (macOS).
Fixed
- Play counts from your other devices now show up right away, without restarting Sonarch (Sync).

New
- pCloud and Dropbox keep up on their own. Sonarch follows their lists of changes and rescans only the folders that changed, within moments on the Mac and whenever you open Sonarch on iPhone. A folder you already have starts after its next full rescan. Turn it off per folder with Watch for changes in Settings › Library.
Improved
- A rescan you didn't start now says what it found ("New music: …") rather than that it ran, and warns you when files in it could not be imported.
- With pCloud and Dropbox, a file that failed to import is tried again on its own: at the next check for changes, and once more a day later.
- With Albums sorted by artist, each artist's albums now run from oldest to newest instead of by title.
- Touch and hold an album and choose Show only this artist to narrow Albums to its artist, as on the Mac (iPhone).
- With Clicks add to selection on, ⌘-clicking an album's play button selects just that album and plays it, the way ⌘-clicking its cover selects it alone (Mac).
Fixed
- Opening Sonarch before your network is ready no longer leaves it saying it can't reach your account, with Sync off, for several minutes. It now connects shortly after the network is back.
1.4
7 October 2026
New
- Genre categories. Sonarch files your albums under a few broad categories, such as Electronic, Ambient, Rock and Jazz, worked out from their genre tags. "Psytrance" lands in Trance and "Hip-Hop/Rap" in Hip Hop, without tidying a single tag. Narrow the Albums wall to a category or a genre from its genre button (on iPhone, the Filter sheet), or use either in a browse rule. A browse rule asks of each track, so a Rock album with one Psychedelic track still offers that track under Other genres.
- Make the categories yours (Pro). Rename or hide a category, add your own, and add a genre to as many categories as fit, or take it out of one; the genres below it follow. Going back to how Sonarch ships them is always free, and your edits reach your other devices (Sync). On the Mac it's in Settings › Library or Edit Categories… in the genre picker; on iPhone, in Settings or the Filter sheet.
- Continue here (Sync). Something playing on another of your devices? On the Mac, right-click its row in History and choose Continue on this Mac; on iPhone, touch and hold the row and choose Continue on this iPhone. This one carries on from the same second, and the other device pauses once it does, so there's no gap.
Fixed
- Covers in History no longer sometimes stay stuck as placeholders.
- Finishing an album on iPhone with silence trimming on no longer leaves your other devices offering to continue its last track.
- Rescanning a folder from Library health after deleting it now clears it, instead of reporting it again as one that wouldn't open.

New
- Which copy plays, and why. Click or tap the info mark beside a track held in more than one place to see its copies in the order Sonarch tries them, with the reason the first one wins: lossless over lossy, a higher bit depth or sample rate, the order of your locations, a download, or a copy that can't be reached right now. On iPhone, a switch shows what changes on a limited connection.
- Open audio files from other apps (iPhone). Sonarch appears in the share sheet and in Files' Open in, and a file you open plays straight away, with the queue still to follow. It's kept in Sonarch › Opened in Files.
- Library health. Files a scan couldn't take in, grouped by folder with a rescan for each, and albums missing an album name, an artist or track numbers, with a way to fix them, including numbering a whole album at once. On the Mac it's ⌘⇧H; on iPhone, in Settings.
- New music reaches your other devices by itself (Sync). When a rescan of a cloud folder finds new or changed tracks, your other devices holding the same folder automatically rescan just the folders where they turned up, without reading the whole location again.
- Pause timer. Pause whatever is playing after a number of minutes or at a set time, with the same fade as before a scheduled start. A countdown shows the time left, and "Finish the track first" lets the playing track end instead of cutting it off. Find it on the stop button's menu; on iPhone, touch and hold the stop button.
- Pick an album from the Remote (iPhone). The Mac's albums, newest first and searchable by title or artist; tap one and the Mac plays it.
- Skip tracks you'd rather not hear. Mark a track as skipped and Sonarch passes over it whenever it picks what plays next: through an album or browse, on shuffle, with Next and Previous. Start it yourself, or play it in a playlist or from a row you queued, and it plays as usual. Skipped tracks carry a mark, and the skip reaches your other devices (Sync). On the Mac, press S on a selection.
Improved
- "Set playing here" in Albums, like in playlists and on the Mac (iPhone).
- Select several of an album's tracks to play them, edit their tags, add them to a playlist or the queue, skip them or download them (iPhone).
- History shows what your other devices played even when this one doesn't have the music: the row is dimmed and can't be played until the album turns up here (Sync).
Fixed
- The mini player no longer covers the bottom of Stats (iPhone).
- Tabs that hold more than one section, such as Bookmarks and History, keep the one you chose after a restart (iPhone).
- Picking an album from the Albums filter scrolls to it once the filter closes (Mac).
1.2
1 October 2026
On iPhone, this also brings everything 1.1 brought to the Mac, from crossfade to settings on your account.
New
- Open audio files from Finder (Mac). Sonarch appears under Open With, and a file you open plays straight away, with whatever was coming up in the queue still to follow.
- Drop a folder anywhere (Mac). Dropped outside a playlist, a folder asks whether to add it to your library, import a copy of it, or make a playlist of its tracks. Loose files become a playlist of their own.
- Your own accent color (iPhone), kept with your account like the Mac's.
- Offline albums from the grid (iPhone). Make an album available offline straight from the album grid.
- Album durations (iPhone), shown under an album's tracks.
Improved
- Importing takes a record's year from its folder name when the tags leave it out, and each note in the import dialog names the record it's about (Mac).
- A tidier Queue sheet that marks the playing track, roomier album rows, and an album you were playing picks up where you left off (iPhone).
Fixed
- Liking a track no longer makes the lyrics blink (Mac).
- Music on an external drive comes back by itself when the drive is connected or unlocked after Sonarch has started (Mac).
- The cover stays on screen while the next track loads (iPhone).

30 September 2026 · Mac only
New
- Crossfade. Blend one record into the next, over a length you choose.
- Silence trimming. Skip the dead air at the start and end of tracks.
- Smoother scheduled starts. Whatever is playing fades out before a scheduled start, and the start itself can fade in.
- Settings on your account. A new Mac can copy the setup of one you already use, and "Copy settings from…" in Settings does the same any time.
- Named bookmarks, carried to your other devices.
- Album durations on hover. Point at a cover or an album row to see its duration.
Improved
- A new browse or playlist opens its name for editing straight away.
- The (…) menus show their keyboard shortcuts.
- Clearing a playlist asks first, and Return confirms a dialog.
- A more polished look throughout, from sheets and dialogs to switches.
Fixed
- "Add to queue" and "Play next" no longer do nothing after you've selected a different album.
- Dragging a row within the queue moves it instead of copying it.
- Titles that differ only in capitalization count as one track.
- Playback and sync are more reliable, along with other small fixes.
